Astronomers for Planet Earth, founded in 2019, is a grass-roots network comprised of over 2,300 astronomers from 85 countries. Our mission is to empower astronomers to take action against the climate crisis — within astronomy and among the general public. A4E members estimate the carbon footprint of astronomical research, advocate for climate-neutral conferences and fascinate the public with the story behind „no planet B“. Most recently, A4E has also contributed to the fight against satellite mega-constellations that pose a risk not only to our dark and quiet skies but quite possibly also to our atmosphere as well. In the two talks of this session, Leonard Burtscher, co-founder of A4E, will introduce A4E’s mission and projects.
Ronald Drimmel, astronomer at INAF, will share our activities in the struggle for the sustainable development of space.
